Although already nearly a year old, a commentary from Drs. Greggio and Cookson (2009) provides a great overview of the main questions around our understanding of LRRK2 and its role in PD. The three questions they ask (What is LRRK2's normal function? How do LRRK2 mutations alter its function? How do LRRK2 mutations lead to toxicity?) are as relevant today as they were at the time of publication. Many of these issues were hot discussion points at the LRRK2 summit in December last year and structuring our strategy around these three main questions is, I think, a good way to proceed.
We re-invite all of our attendees from last year as well as the community at large to post here on what they see are the critical directions for the LRRK2 field to prioritize in 2010 and beyond. MJFF is already actively strategizing around a number of additional LRRK2 efforts, so don't miss out on your opportunity to help us understand the key issues as we prioritize how to allocate our resources!
