Discussion
How could pre-clinical research models be used to study DNRS with relevance to humans?
Dopamine non-responsive symptoms (DNRS) are recognized as a major problem for patients, and can sometimes be the most debilitating symptoms of the disease. Moreover, these symptoms are not only resistant to dopamine-based therapies, but also resistant to treatments normally used in non-PD populations. While a handful of models exist to measure certain biological features associated with DNRS (for instance gastric disturbance), the majority of DNRS are not widely represented in research models, hindering therapeutic development.
