Dyskinesia
Pharmaceutical dopamine replacement therapies are an effective palliative treatment for some of the cardinal motor symptoms of PD, but long-term treatment leads to hyperkinetic movements such as dyskinesia, an onerous motor disturbance that has itself been the target of a number of therapeutic approaches. Research on ameliorating or preventing levadopa-induced dyskinesia has focused on managing drug dosage and blood-levels, and the modulatory affects of other neurotransmitters, such as adenosine.
