Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells Remember Their Origins

Research News

In two recent papers, scientists from independent labs report that induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) retain at least a partial epigenetic memory of their origin. So, if an iPSC line originated from bone, then some bone-specific epigenetic marks remain. Thus, the cells may not be "pluripotent". However, if the cells are cultured long enough, the epigenetic memory starts to vanish. Read all about it in an article on The Scientist.
