New PD models available through MJFF-Jackson Labs partnership
The Michael J. Fox Foundation is expanding its efforts through a partnership with The Jackson Laboratory to make pre-clinical models more widely available to the research community. It is essential that multiple groups have access to these powerful tools to verify published findings and use them to increase our understanding of Parkinson's disease and develop new therapeutic interventions. MJFF has prioritized the development of research tools and is covering the costs of transfer and housing of PD models at The Jackson Laboratory.
As of today, a number of models are already available for sale in Jackson Labs with MJFF support, including Chenjian Li's BAC LRRK2 mice and Darren Moore's alpha-synuclein mice. More models are currently being shipped to Jackson Labs or are in the process of being rederived and will be available later this year.
MJFF is actively seeking additional models to make available through Jackson Labs. MJFF will cover shipping, cryopreservation, rederivation and first-year housing costs for models meeting specific criteria. Depending upon demand, success of the program and future MJFF priorities, there is the possibility of continued support. If you are interested in sharing your PD model, please contact Kirsten Carlson at kcarlson@michaeljfox.org.
