Parkinson's Disease Society Announces 2010 Innovation Grants

The Parkinson's Disease Society (PDS) invests in bold new ideas that have the potential to transform the lives of people with Parkinson's. Innovation grants support exceptionally innovative research focused on the causes, treatment and cure for Parkinson's.

In 2010, there are 5 application deadlines:

  • 5pm on Friday 29 January 2010
  • 5pm on Friday 26 March 2010
  • 5pm on Friday 7 May 2010
  • 5pm on Friday 18 June 2010
  • 5pm on Friday 17 September 2010

Purpose and duration

The innovation grant scheme funds high-risk, high-reward research that tests new and unconventional hypotheses. Research proposals should tackle major scientific or technical hurdles in the field of Parkinson's.

Research proposals do not require a significant level of preliminary data. However, a solid rationale must be provided. Applications should not simply be the next logical step of previous work. If successful, proposals should generate breakthrough discoveries and open exciting avenues of investigation.

For example, innovative research might:

  • develop new research concepts
  • challenge current hypotheses
  • look at existing problems from new perspectives

Innovation grants are offered for up to £35,000 for a maximum of 12 months.

Kieran Breen"Innovation grants promise potentially remarkable outcomes that could revolutionise Parkinson's research.

"This novel funding scheme reflects the PDS's commitment to supporting potentially transformative research, even if it carries a higher scientific risk."
