About PD Online Research

Our Goal

PD Online Research is a collaborative community for technical discussion and problem-solving in Parkinson’s disease science. Our goal is to speed timely information-sharing and foster productive debate that accelerates PD therapeutic development and enables smart, informed decision-making by scientists and funders alike.

PDOR is an experiment: we hope to extend to the web the incredibly productive and efficient interactions that happen at the many scientific meetings we host at MJFF.  If we are successful, this scientific social/professional network will provide a platform for research professionals across the world to engage daily on key hurdles and hot topics, ultimately accelerating progress and breakthroughs in PD therapeutic development. We depend on the entire community to engage on this new platform and commit to hastening research toward better treatments and ultimately a cure for PD.

Our goal has three key components:

  1. Develop a professional community with a vital stake in the execution of PD science and the business of therapeutic development.
  2. Establish a platform that will enable member scientists, funders, and investors to pose questions and engage in instant, open debate that will move their work forward.
  3. Translate online communication into an easily accessible knowledge base.

Who Can Contribute Scientific Commentary and Questions to PD Online Research?

Everyone can read PDOR content, and we invite everyone’s help in moving PD research forward through contributing ideas to PDOR.  In order to maximize the speed of scientific communication, we allow scientists, clinicians, allied health professionals directly engaged in scientific research and PD-research funders to instantly post scientific commentary to PD Online – without moderation – once they register  as members of PDOR and we have verified their credentials.

People who are not registered as members are invited to submit ideas and questions about PD science and therapeutic development to PDOR by clicking here. PDOR will regularly post discussion of the issues raised by the public and fully integrate them into the information on the site. Because of time and space constraints we are not able to address each submitted question individually.  We cannot address issues related to best treatment practices, nor can we provide medical advice. For medical advice, please consult your doctor.

PD Online Research is a collaboration of the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (MJFF) with the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Harvard University.

Our software platform was developed by an MGH/Harvard research team lead by Tim Clark and Sudeshna Das, in collaboration with Michael Rogan and Todd Sherer of MJFF.
